For those who don't know, Soda died of cancer last week, Nov. 2. It was either leukemia or lymphoma, we never really found out for sure as the test was expensive and would not have changed anything. We were with him at home when he died. The first instinct after he is gone is to say "he was a good dog." Well, Soda may not have always been a "good" dog in that he was fiercely independent, never listened, ran away, and chased moose, deer, and any other wildlife that came across his path. However, he was always a good friend. I would never trade a good friend for an obedient one. Soda has been with us through everything, from spending every night by my side as I worked for the wilderness program, to us getting married, having kids, etc. Most of all I think we will remember him as a ski partner. Soda loved being outside and especially outside in snow -- I think even more than me -- it is where he was truly home. A lot of the time we lived in Logan and I was doing avalanche work, I did not always have a ski partner, but, I always had Soda. He skied with me and hung out in my snowpits nearly every day I was out. I don't have to think hard to realize I have skied more days with that dog than any single person. As he got older and would get too tired for long backcountry ski days, he became Ruth's Millcreek Canyon ski friend. He would be 10 years old this January.

He really was our best friend and we will miss him.

Thanks for all the happiness Soda!

To urge, to inspire

Last night, Dave and I watched a documentary entitled, Sharkwater. Yes, obviously I was inspired by the movie, but I was discouraged, feeling like there was nothing I, a stay at home Mom could do. But there is and even though it's not a lot, it's a start. I am urging all of you to do some research and learn about sharks and all the other marine life that are being taken for totally useless purposes. Do the research for yourselves to find out where the fish you ate at that restaurant last night came from and why you should or shouldn't eat it. I know some of you are thinking, "this is ridiculous". I know for a fact there are some in my family that are thinking this. You may also be thinking "animals are ours for the taking" and have a totally selfish perspective and in response I am speechless at such irresponsible thought, but ok fine, I still urge you to think again. I am just asking you to look at the information and look at how much of an impact you have on these animal's lives, which in turn affects ours. If you don't care, fine, but at least you looked. I hope some information has enough of an impact that you think twice before you eat bluefin tuna, shark, or salmon. Animals have a huge impact on our quality of life, not just for enjoyment or having a companion, but they literally affect everything. If you destroy an entire population, we and other animals will surely suffer. If we don't suffer for it now, we will sooner or later and it will be too late. All we can say is, "that was stupid" and starve. Since animals don't have the ability to "voice" their opinion or show us how they feel we, as humans, have a duty to take care of them and provide for them a quality of life we would want for ourselves. No I am not vegetarian, that doesn't mean I am ruthless about eating meat. Just think next time before you put that fish in your mouth. Please scroll down for web sites.

Fall - Wasatch Crest
Dave went on a bike ride the other day and took this picture on the trail.
Fall is the best in Utah!

Ande: I was making the bed one day and I put Ande
in the laundry basket with the down blanket and some
clean clothes underneath for some cushioning. The booties
he has on are the ones I had when I was a baby.

Ande: He can hold his head up now! This was the first time he
really held it up for a while. Pretty cool!

This is our friend Eric. We went to Logan about two weeks ago. Bloomington
